In 1901 – 

Ethel and her sister, Mabel, are at Eastbourne at boarding school. They are listed as ‘Pupils’.

In 1921 – 

She is at Glenhurst, Sherwood Park Road, Sutton as a boarder. The head of the household, Maria Frances Martin (b. 1868), is listed as ‘Boarding House Keeper’. Ethel is listed as boarder and ‘Music Teacher’. John Smith Flett (b. 1869) is listed as boarder and ‘Civil Servant H M Geological Survey’. 

In 1939 – 

She is at 82 Mulgrave Road, Sutton. Ethel is listed as ‘Music Mistress Sutton High School’.
